Im looking to buy my first mac. I want to use it mainly for school ect. However, my question is does anyone think there will be another update before years end or do you think the next ibook update will be the mactels? And if so should i wait for a mactel and not purchase a ibook now?

I wouldn't buy a first generation Intel Mac, but that's just me.
I think the next iBook update is about 2-2.5 months off, which puts it right around MacWorld San Francisco. I'm not sure if it will be a PPC upgrade or Intel switch.

If I needed an ibook now for writing papers, I would buy the latest revision instead of waiting.
There's just too much uncertainty with a first generation product and I no longer have the time and will to be an early adopter. Working out kinks and troubleshooting problems can be very distracting.

Thats what i was thinking about 1G mactels. Heres my other question for you people out there. Has anyone ever had a major problem with refurbished laptops or computers from mac. I was thinking of possibly buying one of those if they have one that suits my needs. I plan on buying the apple care on the ibook no matter which one i buy, but i also dont want an inferior product from the begining (why im getting a mac lap top and not a pc). I dont want to have to constently send it in for repair ect like i have to do for people at my job. **Cough** HP/compaq **Cough**.
Anyways thanks for everyone help.

I think you should buy one now. What other updates would you be looking for in the next generation ibook? The current model (with added memory) is a pretty capable machine and should suit you fine for schoolwork. I don't really see a reason to wait several months for another update unless you are waiting for the ibook to update something specific.
