First the hard drive question. Would you go 80GB or BTO 100GB on a 12 inch Powerbook? I notice that some of the OEM drives including Seagate only have three heads on the 80 but four on the 100 so I am assuming that in addition to the capacity boost there is also a speed boost. Also I am curious to know what drives Apple is using these days. I'd just as soon avoid getting another Toshiba if I possibly can, but primarily because the drives are so difficult to change on the aluminum books I want to make the right move at the start.
Second, the DVD question. As many of you know, the Powerbooks for some time were plagued by DVD burners such as the Panasonic/Matshita UJ-816 and UJ-835 among others being very finicky with just about any DVD-recordable media other than Apple and TDK. I noticed a Powerbook 12 at a local store produced the first week in October that has the newer UJ-845. Is this what is now shipping on a normal basis and are the newer drives still having trouble with many brands of DVD media?
