Can someone please tell what the exact symptoms of a dead logic board are in an iBook G3? I tried installing an airport card, after which the iBook will not start. I've tried PRAM, resetting PMU, holding down various keys on startup, nothing works. Black screen. Although I do hear something engage after hitting the power button. If I press and hold the power button I hear something shut down. There are none of the usual startup sounds. Nothing loads. I want to know for sure that this is what the problem is before I replace it. (i have a simlar iBook with a cracked screen) I don't know if I zapped something when I installed the airport card, I think I was grounded the whole time but does the possibily exist that I zapped something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple says:
How does Apple define a "component failure" for this program?
Computer starts up to blank screen

If your serial number is in the UV117XXXXXX to UV342XXXXXX range (or even if it's not), give AppleCare a call and see if they'll cover it.

Thank you. As it turns out I improperly installed the airport, also it was the WRONG CARD. Some of the iBook-based contacts were askew so I set them right and now the iBook starts fine. I had an "airport extreme" card instead of the original for my iBook G3. I went by my friends advice when she said "ooohh...what a great deal" instead of researching to see that it was the right one. She was under the understanding that I had the G4. I just wanted to post this so that if someone thinks what they have is a logic board problem and it turns out to be the above, it might save them the head-ache and worry of what I went through. (Then again, how many more people are going to be as dumb as I was?)

Odd. I would think a computer would still boot with the wrong card installed.

Well, see, when installing the card I must have done it improperly, for some of the contacts on the iBook were bent. My boyfriend fixed it (he has a much steadier hand than I) and I rebooted and all was fine. I read somewhere of someone who did the same thing-messed up the contacts on the iBook. Once we fixed the contacts the iBook is fine, I am typing on it right now. I tore apart the iBook and could plainly see that the contacts were all askew. Please keep this posted, as maybe others may have done the same thing and they too will think all is lost. Phew. (Boy, do I feel dumb)
