hi all, just a quick post (my first) to say that i tried Guy Kuo's suggestion as i didn't believe my problem was the inverter card/hinge cable trouble, removing the base and shield i followed his instructions posted here , fortunately i didn't need a heat gun as i have a hakko 850 solder rework station, so i felt a little more confident (don't let that deter you though).

Needless to say, all went as planned, took maybe 3/4 hour including setup etc. and my G3 i-book sits happily purring away as i type this, twisting, shaking, screen open closing etc. etc. now has ABSOLUTLELY NO ILL EFFECT, whereas prior to the fix i only had to nudge it, tilt the screen or just type for the dreaded screen corruption/system shutdown to rear it's ugly head.

So kudos to Guy and to all who dare *S*, u really have nothing to lose, the local mac ppl here in SG didn't mention ANYTHING about a tendency for these problems to arise, nor advise that there was ever an extended fix by apple (now expired i guess). So rather than stuff around with the "no can do lah!" apple ..ahem "gooh roo's", save yourself the hassle and give it a whirl.

I rarely get online thesedays, so i doubt i'll be replying to any messages, i apologise in advance, but i am sure the above link speaks volumes and should give any of you enough confidence to try it.
