Hey everyone,

So a little something about my ibook. So far, it still has applecare. It has been shipped to apple for a combo drive failure, got everything fixed free of charge. Then it had a hard drive failure.. got everything fixed free of charge.. then it had a keyboard recognition failure.. got a new keyboard sent to me free of charge... so recently. I have been hearing this really soft almost scratching noises ( i know what HD noise sounds like.. it is definately not normal) from the hard drive, which is under the left palm rest. This only occurs when I move my ibook without closing it. Should this noise be something to worry about ( is it likely to be another HD failure ?) I think this is really unreasonable.. my ibook is less than three years old and its already had its guts turned inside out. I take super good care of it too, never dropped or spilled.

Any ideas/comments. thanks.

I get the same sound (at least I think it's the same) from my HD whenever I move it with the lid open. Kind of sound like a "Light Saber" hum. My ibook is about 2 years old, haven't had any problems other than my battery (my fault)

So far other than the noise, no hd probs.

^ Yeah that light saber hum describes it pretty well. Especially from the HD. Thanks for the info ... it is weird how this is the first time I heard this noise in almost 3 years.

I've had my hum for quite a while now, without any problems. I'm not sure if it's "normal" HD noises or I'm just sensitive to the noise.

This is my first laptop so the noise might be normal for a sensitive piece of electronics that gets moved around more that a desktop machine would.
