No matter what media I use it always burns at 2x. Apple of course claims the drive is "smart" and does this for compensation of discs it finds off centered. I've tried every freaking type of media. Seriously I think I need gold plated media....

Why can't the DVD drive just be "stupid" and burn at the speed I tell it? Of course all the same media works fine in my dell laptop with slot loading drive at much higher speeds :-(

Don't know which machine you have, but you could try Toast to see what speeds are really available.
