I turned my computer on this evening to discover that all of my settings had been lost. My documents, pictures, music, photos, etc. are still on my hard drive but not in Itunes, Iphoto, etc. Two further oddities: 1.) firefox crashed a couple days ago, and when i reopened it my settings and bookmarks were gone, which was annoying but I figured it was a firefox glitch. 2.) when I tried to put my music back in Itunes I got a message saying that there wasn't enough space on Macintosh Hard Drive for all the music files.... Since they were all there in the first place that doesn't seem right to me. Anyone know how I can restore my settings and if there could be a more fundamental flaw that might cause this to happen again? Not a virus or anything? I'll be forever in your debt if you can help me figure this out.

1) it is a known firefox glitch. dunno if you can restore your bookmarks... but you can use desktop bookmarks instead and those will not disspear.

2) you don't have enough space on your HDD, perhaps, because iTunes wants to recopy your music files into the iTunes folder. And there isn't enough space on your HDD for two copies of your music.

thxs, I'll try that, would you stop using firefox though? I love the browser but I don't want to deal with this again. Does that glitch just affect firefox or would it account for the whole system doing this?

i don't know what happened with your itunes though. i've never heard that the firefox glitch could affect the rest of your system...

Hihi,

Did you happen to change the name of your Home directory?

I did this once and I guess OS X thought a booboo happened, since it created a new user account (with the old name). Thus when I next logged in, i logged into the 'new' account, OS X created for me. Since it was new, i had nothing in itunes, bookmarks, etc. Sounds like the problem you have. your hdd is full because itunes wants to make *another* copy of your music since you are now logged in as a different person. Can't remember how i fixed it but here are some options:
  1. rename the Home folders of the users
  2. copy everything over from the 'old' into the 'new'. it should all still be there

I think i did the first one (long time ago). Anyway hope that helped

More and more websites are supporting Safari. I rarely need to fire up Firefox or IE these days. I recommend Safari.
