Not sure what went wrong, I can't see my initial post.

Anyway the question was if I can set my brightness on my PowerBook 12 inch even higher, because at the moment even it is at the maximum, I still find it a bit dim. Maybe a third party program is needed? And also I wonder how I am able to set my contrast? Thank you.

uhhhh.....no. the 12" is notorious for having a dimly lit screen, i dont mind it though.

The 12" PB is perhaps better thought of as a "super-iBook", which is to say that it doesn't have the greatest LCD (at least, not the quality of LCD that you'd expect in a PowerBook.)

That said, download SuperCal from versiontracker.com and see what that does for your personal satisfaction level. As far as contrast goes, I just use the Display Sytem Pref, and set my color profile to sRGB. My SuperCal profile was remarkably close to that setting.

Hi amazing,

Thanks for your tip.

I had been disappointed with the brightness of the display in my 12 inch Powerbook.

As you suggested I tried the sRGB setting in display prefs and it is a GREAT improvement.

But need I be concerned that the extra brightness will shorten the life of the lcd backlight?

That setting has absolutely nothing to do with the backlight. It's just the way the colors are set on the screen. All you've done is make the colors brighter, not the backlight.
