Ok, I have no idea what is going on. So you know how when your battery drains, it tells you that there is reserve power and then once the reserve power dies it shuts down and saves your work? Then when you start it up it shows a dim screen and those bars go up as your work is recovered?

Well, this is what is happening everytime I unplug my Powerbook!! The battery is at 100% but it shuts down when i unplug it! how do i fix this??

Maybe your battery is dead?

It's been known to happen.

It's a known issue with many of the current crop of powerbooks. The same thing happened with one of the powerbooks I bought from amazon. Check out the apple discussions for more information, but it seems that the only solution is to get the battery replaced.

Good luck

If your battery is dead, a complete charge may only be a few seconds. The battery on my iBook, before I replaced it, lasted only 5 minutes on a "complete charge". That battery was 5 years old.

Tried resetting the PMU it didn't work. I have been using the battery so frequently too. I don't understand why this would happen. So far I have used the battery to full its full capacity 5-6 times since I got the computer (a month ago). Shouldn't it know it isn't dead? Is there anything else I can do?

As I said, this is well-known issue and lots of people are experiencing it. My battery said 100% but wasn't recognised by the computer. then after rebooting a few times it would drop to 0%. If I unplugged it when it was at 100% it would either continue for a few minutes and then die, or enter hibernation mode immediately.

In any case, this IS a known issue with the new powebooks and if you call Apple, they will immediately send you a new battery. It doesn't seem like there is a fix that you can administer yourself - just check out the apple discussion forums for more information.

Good luck.
