Hello all: I have a 1 gig Titanium with Superdrive that is approaching 3 years of age and has worked like a charm throughout....until yesterday. The machine was in screen saver mode, and a red vertical line appeared on my screen. After a call to Applecare (which expires on December 18th) and an unsuccessful troubleshooting session, I was informed I need a new logic board. I was instructed to back up all of my material ASAP. So, my question is, what exactly does this mean? Is this the beginning of the end of my PB? How much would this have cost if not covered by applecare? Did I do anything to contribute to this problem? Are there any steps I should take before I send it in?

Thanks in advance.....

I just had the logic board in my less than a year old 15" Aluminum Powerbook and it was over $900 for parts and labor and I'd assume the TiBook would be something similar.

Make a copy of all your data before you send it in.

You probably didn't do anything to cause the logic board failure.

If you don't get it fixed while AppleCare is covering you the price is $800-1000.

I just had my logic board replaced in my 2 year old Al Book (11/15/05). The video went completely haywire. I did do an updated back up of my system to an external firewire drive as a safety precaution (wasn't necessary as my system was unchanged after the repair) but better to be safe. An added bonus of the backup was I could continue working with my system while the Al Book was being repaired by hooking my firewire drive up to another computer and simply booting from it. I just resynced back to my system when it returned and I was completely up to date. I brought my Al Book to my local Apple store for repair, dropped it off on a Friday, it was back the next Tuesday. Cost was 323.65 (included MN sales tax). (no applecare, out of warranty).
