Ok, I posted this on the iBook forum and everybody says get iBook, so I'll try here and see what happens ;-)

I need to get one or the another very soon (going to travel and work there). I will be using almost exclusively Photoshop and Illustrator CS2. Would 14 inch ibook be better than 12 inch powerbook? Price is somewhat a consideration but if there is a substantial difference in performance I would go for the powerbook.

Right now it's a toss up between 14' iBook new and 15" Powerbook refurbished. The difference is $100. Am I going to notice a difference in performance?

Refurbished PowerBook G4 1.33GHz/ 256MB/ 60GB/ Combo/ AP Extreme Card/ GigE/ 15-inch TFT/ Aluminum $1,299

vs.

iBook
1.42GHz PowerPC G4

14.1-inch TFT Display

60GB Ultra ATA hard drive
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Built-in AirPort Extreme

If you are planning on editing large image files, then I would say go with the iBook. The iBook has 256MB more ram the Powerbook and that can make a VERY large difference. But if you are just doing normal editing, there probably won't be much a difference in performance anyways, so I would go with the Powerbook just because it's screen is much, much sharper than the iBook.

Thanks, ryan. I think I am going to go ahead and spend the extra $$$ and get the 15" powerbook new with 1.67 GHz and add more RAM on top of the 512.
