Hi, I am having an issue with my PowerBook. I've had this thing since June and it has worked flawlessly until about 3 weeks ago.

I noticed one day after returning from lunch that it had tried to shut down. I figured someone was playing a joke on me until I noticed it happening again later as I sat there working on a different computer.

Basically, if I stop using the mac for about 15 to 20 minutes, something kicks off the process of shutting it down. It basically looks exactly like the normal shut down window (with a 2 minute count down) except the icon looks like a home instead of the power button.

I've googled, but haven't had much luck. I've reset the power management according to this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

...still not fixed

Specs:
17"
Tiger 10.4.3
all the latest software updates

Help ?!?

Do you have a shut down scheduled in the Energy Saver preferences?

Thanks for your reply, but no, the scheduler would assign a specific day/time, this happens whenever I step away from it for a brief period.

I'll repost here in a few minutes with the exact time and a process status report. Maybe something will give me/us a clue there.

Thanks

Just to follow up -- I fixed this. Turns out this setting is in System Settings -> Security. I don't remember doing this (even if by accident), but nonetheless, unchecking the "Log out after [] minutes of activity" did the trick.

Thanks Steve for your time.
