Hi new to troubleshooting MACs...have an Ibook A1005..when the power button is depressed the musical tone sounds but no picture comes up.Im thinking that this means there is a display problem as opposed to some other issue as the musical tone indicates the notebook is starting up?Any input would be appreciated..thanks

Can you see anything at all?

There are two main problems surrounding the iBook G3 these are:

1. The reed switch/backlight cable gets pinched/shorts in the hinge and the backlight doesn't come on
2. The graphics chip comes away from the logic board.

Can you try connecting it to an external display?
