So I have a 12" 1.5Ghz 60G/Combo PB. I also have a Dell 2005FPW that I'm running connected to it. I prefer to work in closed lid mode and just look at my Dell monitor. But my airport goes totally out when I do that.

If I open up the laptop after having closed it so the laptop screen is off and the dell screen is on, then the reception comes back... so it seems to definately have something to do with the screen being closed.

Is there any reason for this?? I'd like to figure out how to get airport reception with a closed lid. Granted I'm not that close to my airport base station. And if I moved the laptop closer to the base station then the airport works find in closed lid mode. But somehow the reception gets worse when you close the lid... is there any workaround for this problem?

The antennas are on the edges of the lid. Probably it's just the antenna orientation that's the problem. Orienting the closed PB differently (e.g. using a stand to hold it vertically) or using an external antenna on the wireless base station might help.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Any advice on how to keep it oriented vertically?

A stand, like I said? I think they make them. Just set it with the back edge (where the screen hinge is) down. And make sure you don't completely block the cooling vents.

I haven't seen any except for that one in the PB picture thread, but that guy is using an external HDD stand... and I don't know where to get one of those without buying the external HDD too.
