I've set up my laptop so my son has his own account. I want him to be able to move some files (music, photos) from my account to his (put some pic in his iphoto, and music in his itunes). I've tried turning on sharing on my iphoto, but they're not showing up in his iphoto. Seems like it should be simple, but it's not working. Help!

Theresa

1) Not an iBook question.

2) You already got an answer when you posted in the PowerMac forum.

The answer given was to correct permissions on the folders - but I don't know how to do that. I need further instructions.

Hi Theresa,

It was smart of you to set up the machine with separate accounts for each user. However, that separation makes is more difficult to share things the way you'd like. The easiest way to get your things to him would be for you (while logged in to your account) to copy (drag with the option key down) the files you want to give to him over to his public folder. Just drop them into the Drop Box and he can retrieve them from there. Make sure you keep the option key down as you drag, though, or else you'll actually move the files, and you won't have them anymore.

That doesn't change the fact that this is the wrong forum.

Thanks, Chris, for your reply. It makes sense, but didn't work for me. Maybe I did it wrong. In my account, I went to my picture folder, then iphoto library, then albums, then the one I wanted to move, held down the option key and dragged it to the drop folder in his account. When I went to his account and tried to import into his iphoto from his drop folder, the album name was there, but the data was imcomplete. I think I'm missing something. (ahem!)
What I want to accomplish is for his to be able to use this laptop without the ability to get into my stuff, and to be able to move files (music, pics) from my programs to his. I know there has to be a way. Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

Theresa,

Try this tip to share the iphoto library: http://captnswing.net/howto/iphoto/

Another idea is to use iPhoto Buddy (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12175) to set iphoto to store its library in the /Users/Shared folder. I keep my iTunes music there and everyone on the machine can see it.
