I have 768 of memory in my powerbook. I'm pretty sure it used to recognize all 768. Now in system info it only recognizes 512. What's the best way to go around diagnosing/fixing this problem. Thanks

More information would be useful, but assuming it's a 15" Powerbook, one of your ram slots is faulty so you need to have your logic board replaced.

It is a common problem with the 15" Powerbooks and Apple should do it for free.

It is a 15 inch powerbook. How long will that take? Will I need to send it in?

Before sending it in, I'd take the RAM out and put it back in. My guess is that the 256MB DIMM isn't seated well.

@mduell: it's good to check if the RAM is well seated, but this is also a very usual and documented problem with 15" PB Alus.
