Hi,

I wanted to improve my ram from 256mb to something decent like 768mbs or 1.25 gbs because i plan to play WoW on my 1.2ghz ibook. i know I barely meet the requirements, but it's playable. Should I get 1 gb of ram or 256 mb? Is there a big noticeable difference? thanks.

You can only upgrade once without throwing something away. Do the GB.

heh. sounds good to me. thank you however... I've looked up previous forums on memory upgrades for my ibook, and i've come to the conclusion that I should stick with vendors that a lifetime guarantee, and I decided on crucial and dms. crucial ram is 37 dollars more plus shipping and tax and such. datamem seemingly has its own additional taxes. Before tax, the crucial ram is $162 US (I live in Canada) and the datamem is $125 US. I know crucial guarantee's compatibility, but datamem... i'm not quite sure. I have an iBook G4 1.2 ghz 12' with 256mb stock.

How do I know if this ram (from datamem) is compatible? I have no idea what M9623LL/A is.
1GB 200 Pin DDR PC2100 128x64 CL 2.5 SODIMM iBook G4 1.2GHz (M9623LL/A) 12"
-It seems to match everything that the crucial ram has listed.

Shall I shop around more? Or stick with crucial... from crucial? thanks

I got Crucial. No problems here. Can't comment on Datamem though.

Crucial is definitely a safe bet. I heard Newegg.com does not ship to Canada, if they did that would be your best bet for $$$. But check OWC(macsales.com) They also provide a better price than crucial direct. Everyone elses opinion of going with 1g is dead on. You will definatley see an improvement in performance. It is one of the best bang for your buck upgrades that you can do on your Mac. Hey good luck with finding the best buy

The Datamem RAM will be compatible with your machine: You chose it from the page for iBook G4's, right?

There are also memory dealers in Canada who will be able to handle shipping and warranty without cross-border costs.

PM me if you need a recommendation...

Thanks

Go straight to 1GB, only 1 open slot, don't want to do it twice.

Will WoW work okay on that iBook? I have the same one. I was worried about CPU and video.

well, concerning WoW on this iBook... I've installed it and tested it and I run on average.... at 18 fps. It's playable, but sometimes I fall to 14, 12 even. That's when it goes wack, mind you, I only have 256 mb of ram. I'll definately buy the gig, as 1.25 will definately boost performance. I've looked up stuff, and apparently defragging the system will do some good because WoW has huge files. probably going to do so with iDefrag ($30 online download). But thanks peeps for the backup, I wasn't sure if I wanted a gig or not. Btw. What's the difference between PC2100 and PC2700? I am no computer wiz.

1GB (1024MB) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 200 Pin Memory Module 128x64 CL 2.5 for PowerBook G4 'Aluminum' 12", 15" & 17" 1.5GHz or 1.67GHz Models, iBook G4 1.2/1.3/1.33/1.42GHz Models *ONLY*-Not for other speed models! New, Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty. (OWC2700DDRS1GBC)

Says this one is compatible at PC2700.

Thanks,
