Ahoy!
I got my iBook about three months ago and I personally don't use it that much, Mainly my partner uses it to play games and she never eats food around it or has ever spilled anything on it but 'pink' marks have appeared almost over night where you rest your hands.
I've tried to get rid of them with a bit of cleaning stuff but they are still there!
Any ideas on how to get rid of them? They are driving me mad, my beautiful iBook has pink marks on it!

That is weird, do you have a pink highlighter around there? thats the only thing I could think of...The only thing I could suggest is the magic eraser, I personally have never used it but other swear by it!
Mister clean magic eraser in the cleaning supplies isle, comes in a box and it's maybe 1 dollar per
Good thing it didn't get on the keyboard or trackpad!

It's not pen marks, it's in the exact same place as where you rest the palms of your hands. We don't even have any markers in the house :|

Hmmm, looks like make-up then.
Magic eraser or maybe make-up removeer would get rid of it.

Hi,
Are these possibilities?:
1. hand lotion or other skin cosmetics that you or your partner are using
2. a red or pink bracelet or leather watch strap that is bleeding color
3. pink/ red dye from food eaten during ibook use
Let us know how successful you are at cleaning it and what you try. It certainly is hard to keep that white plastic pristine.
Good luck,
Rich (PB G4 12 1.33, iB G4 12 1.33)

Yes, it should come off.
I got something red all over my hands once (can't remember what it was) and it came off of my hands onto my iBook.
I'm not sure what I used but I got it off.
I also got some ink from a Biro pen on the outershell of my iBook once and the only way i found of getting that off at the time was white spirits.

I've tried a few things to get it off with no luck as of yet. I was thinking about white spirit but was worried about what effect it may have on the white itself - I assume it had no effect?
Thanks for the help guys and girls, hopefully I'll find something to get it off

It seemed to do no harm to the outer shell so I can't see it doing any harm to the inner shell.

Can you Britains please define "white spirit?" Is it an alcohol or some patroleum distilate? Just curious.

Safety (MSDS) data for white spirits
Synonyms: mineral spirits, high flash naphtha, petroleum distillate fractions, Stoddard solvent, petroleum distillates, white spirit
Use: Paint thinner, degreaser
Hope that helps

Got it. It would be marked as paint thinner, mineral spirits, or something similar based on the proportion of the various distillates.
I would not use such strong chemicals on the acrylic case of an iBook; I'd use isopropyl alcohol instead, as it's far less likely to interact with the plastic. A good grease cutting detergent would probably be pretty good at removing stuff from the case as well. And don't forget simple very fine abrasives-try soaping a wet piece of newsprint and scrubbing with it.
An iBook case-the palm rests in particular-is really sturdy and made of rugged plastic, but I'd move up to very strong chemicals gradually.
