I'd like to start out by saying that I would love to own an Apple laptop one day that didn't have to return home at some point to be repaired.

So far I've had a 14 inch Ibook g3 900mhz who's logic board fried, a 12 inch g3 700 mhz Ibook who's logic board died (and Apple refused to fix because the repair program was over), and now a 12 inch 1.5Ghz G4 Powerbook who's ethernet port decided to have some really strange problems.

In order to use the ethernet port on this machine, you would have to put your finger under the ethernet cable and push it upward. If you held the cable in that position, then you were good to go to surf. If you let go....well...let's just say all connectivity was instantly lost.

So my fiance dropped it off at the Apple Store in Lenox Mall (which is actually where i bought it) and the Genius told her that the logic board was going to have be replaced in it as well. So it's sitting in Atlanta waiting to be shipped off to wherever it is that they are sending it to be repaired.

In total, that's 3 laptops that I have owned in 3 or 4 years that have had the logic board die on them. The suprising part? I still love the machines and will continue to use them no matter how horrible the customer service is at Apple or how many times I have to keep sending them back for repairs.

I've got a 1.33 ghz G4 Ibook coming today for my fiance (to replace the G3 Apple wouldn't fix) and I'm crossing my fingers to see if this one will last. I know one thing though....instead of Applecare this go round, I'm going to just insure my powerbook and her ibook under Safeware and be done with it. I can't stand dealing with Apple's customer service anymore......

Stupid question but did you try other cables with the ethernet port? As for the iBooks, I think you just had the bad luck of getting the bad versions of those machines.

Yea i tried just about every ethernet cable on the planet. I actually just got the powerbook back yesterday and now everything is working wonderfully. Apparently the logic board was just completely messed up on it.
