Help
When I boot my g3 ibook 700 , it runs through and boots up process, but the screen is blank. The mouse works but I can't direct it to operate on a blank desktop. I have to pull the plug to power out, then re-plug in and turn the machine on. It dings and proceeds to boot up but to a blank screen again. Then, one in about 15 trys, it will boot up with the screen on like its O.K. Of corse the dsk repair dialog box routine runs first then it will boot up like all is well so I don't think it's the logic board.
Then, the next 10 to 15 times it will boot up blank. There, I've, said it. That's my problem.
Is it the lcd screen ??? a bad connection from the board to the screen ?/or what ?

This model should be covered under the Apple Logic Board Repair program.

Unfortunately, the program ran out in March I think but your problems sounds like the reed switch cable is broken.
This is replaceable and can be done by yourself if you have the patience and are technically inclined.
I bought my inverter/reed switch cable from eBay along with a new hinge. The new cable was thinner than the one it replaced and the new hinge had larger gaps for the cable to pass through.
Since I replaced it, I haven't had any problems since.

You can use guides from pbfixit.com to disassemble and re-assemble the iBook.
