Hi,

I was able to get an aluminum powerbook with broken hinges for really cheap. I also now have a spare set of hinges so I am ready to go. The only thing is that there is a cover on the powerbook screen that is over the hinges, cables, etc.

Can you please tell me how I can take off that cover? I feel as if I can pry it off, but I really don't want to do damage to the screen.

I know its strange for an aluminum powerbook to have broken hinges, but that's what this one has.

Please help!
Thanks!!

Why not simply take it to an apple repair provider?

But here is a guide for changing displays on your powerbook. The link is for a 15" but if you want a different model then it is easy to change the model... It is a guide for changing displays but it shows how to gain access to critical parts of ther screen. I hope it gives you some help.

http://www.pbfixit.com/Guide/54.11.0.html

But i must warn you it looks pretty scary... i would only be willing to try it if i had no other choice and my warranty was gone. You may need some tools that resemble closely what they use in the guide.

Good luck and happy new year to everyone!

Hi,

Thanks, I used that guide to remove the display, but to get to the hinges was not part of the guide. Figured it out, installed the hinges, and completed my little project. The screen has some issues that were there before, but i think I am a "pro" now in disassembling the 15" powerbook. At least I got a working 1.5ghz powerbook now, all for $250!

Thanks!
