My freind found out how to, using special waxy paper or something like that, change the color of the apple on the front of his ibook. I was wondering if this is possible to do with a power book and if so if anyone had some directions to use to do it

I did it with my PowerBook and it turned out very well. It looks kinda stupid in the pictures, but in real life, I think it looks great, especially when the laptop is on and it's glowing.

How hard and how long and how much of a void of your warranty was that mod?

Unfortunately, voiding your warranty is a binary operation. It's either voided, or it's not.

I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of the old rainbow apple, but I'm nonetheless impressed.

I modified my apple my inserting stuff behind it. Have a few photos of the process with comments here:

It's kinda tricky to do. If you aren't fearless when it comes to taking things apart, I wouldn't recommend it.

I completely forgot about this thread.. so i'll make the reply now.
As mentioned before in my previous post... this was not an easy task.
Really requires time and concentration.. as i didn't want to screw up the LCD.

Insructions on how to take apart the casing:
(My instructions are for a 15" Al PB, yours may differ, use at your own risk)
1) Find a hex screw driver that will fix inbetween the bottom of the lcd and the main base of the computer. I had to bend my hex key in order to make it work
2) Tape with scotch tape or some kind of material that will prevent the hex key from scratching the main base of the computer. So basicly around the corner of the power adapter. Do this to both sides.
3) Find old credit cards or department store point cards (Optimum card, HBC rewards, Petro Points) basicly anything that is bendable but thick enough to give and push
4) Unscrew the hex screws slowly..

*NOTE*
How the 15" lid stays close is.. the outter lid is latched onto the lcd.
You have to basicly pry it off (unhook) the lcd part and it will come loose.
Now, to me, this was not a easy task. I wanted to make sure i didn't break anything, so i kind of took my time. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START FROM THE BOTTOM. Not that there is a gap there, but because the ribbon and what connects the lcd to the computer is there.

5) I started off on the bottom where the 2 hex screws are... I tried to get a hold of anything i could and just start a little gap with the old department store cards. Then i started working on the sides. So basicly start with one side. Slide one card up and down slowly.. once you have a decent gap, leave that card there and continue on moving upwards with another card

6) Another hard part is the top corners. Once i got there, i was kind of stuck again because the credit cards couldn't really turn around the edges..
So then i left the cards inside the side edges while i started from the latch.
That worked and with time.. the top came loose.

7) I left the bottom edge last cause everything is connected to the computer.

8) At this point.. everything should be somewhat apart, but the ribbon connected to the computer. Install Filter / Film and reassemble slowly.

9) When putting it back together, you have to watch the bottom side because you'll see that they have clamps on the bottom side and when you close it, make sure everything is inside.

Now to answer the questions... why BLUE? I did order red and the Classic apple logo filter.. cause i'm a junkie.. I considered going with red.. but since i'm a guy, Blue would more suitable and more of a subtle color. Since i don't wear any crazy colors, red wouldn't exactly go. So there you have it.. if you have any more questions to ask.. feel free.

Would i take it apart and change it again? NO, the risk is pretty high... i was on a urge to customize my baby.. and i did it. It done. I'm keeping it as is.

Some people might want to do it cause their warranty is up.. cause i'm sure this will void it.. If your not good at taking things apart and putting them back together (DIY person), i'd suggest you bring it to a store and have them do it for the cost of labor than to have a $2000 paperweight.

It didn't really void my warranty however, becuase if I ever need to send it in, I can just take it off before and they would never know about it.

Also, since I have done that mod, I have taken my laptop into the genius bar twice to get apple care work done on it and they had absolutley no probelem fixing everything under warranty, and one of the problems was even a screen issue. The only thing they told me was that I was not able to just flat out return the thing anymore, but that is fine since I was already pas 14 days anyway. I'm sure people will all have different experiences, but for me they have been completley fine with it.

The mod took me less than an hour.

If you want to see the pictures again since they were removed, here are the links:
