I just upgraded to a new iBook and i need to erase all my data off of my G3 Powerbook so I can sell it. the only problem is I don't have any OS install CD's to do a restore and my powerbook is currently running OS 10.4. I need to clear off all of my data without getting rid of OS 10.4, any advice on how to do this would be a great help!

Can't you just drag all your files to the trash? You can sift through the Preferences and delete those too. I always keep all of my files in 3 main folders (Favorites, Music and Photos) so deleting those would clean up most of my hard drive. This won't create a new administrator account but the new owner could live with it or find their own OSX install disks.

Alternately, you should have install disks for the iBook. Are those locked to a specific hardware? I know I used to use software disks between computers, but maybe they do a hardware check these days. If not, just erase the disk and reinstall the iBook system.

the ibook restore software will only run on your ibook. however once running on the ibook, it can then install the software to any drive mounted on the ibook.

you could mount your pismo hard drive on the ibook by connecting it in target disk mode.

but the spoiler is that installing the software from your ibook on the pismo, although technically do-able, should NOT be done because it would violate your software license.

I would just create a new admin account for the future owner, then delete your accounts [& trash your user folder(s) under /Users (just leave the newly created admin and shared folders)]. If there are any sensitive files you want to be sure no one else can recover, manually put those files in the trash first, then "secure empty trash".

Start up in Target Disk Mode. Connect to your iBook. Launch Disk Utility on the iBook. Format the Pismo.
