hey all
my trusty pismo seems a little sick.....too frequently, it will crash or something when i try to wake it up from sleep.
i'll open the lid, and i can hear the drive and parts start to whir....but nothing will be up on the screen. like it got stuck waking up, and never made it fully. i have to force re-start it to get it going.
any doctor's know what might be wrong?

Well, around my Pismo, that's par for the course. Another thing is having to force a shutdown by pressing on Power for a long time and then having to press the Reset button under the back flap to get it to listen to the Power button and get it to turn on again.
I guess Apple just doesn't care anymore to test the OS on Pismos. I've swapped mine's DC/Charge board and it didn't change anything.

Get it restarted and check the SMART status in Disk utility. Your HD could be failing.

hi
i would suggest a clean install of system software.
overall, i think tiger may be a bit of a strain for a pismo. i have been running 10.3.9 on my pismo with no problems whatsoever. unless there is a good reason to go with tiger, i think the performance of the pismo is better with 10.3.9
besides checking the smart status of the HD, you might want to remove any additional RAM sticks as some can cause the startup from sleep probs you are having.
enjoy,
-rich (g4 12 rev C but still got my pismo)

It's not Tiger...except for not recognizing 2 battery bays and always calculating battery time (these are known issues), 10.4.3 runs perfectly and sleeps/wakes perfectly on my machine.
However, I have a less than 1 year old Toshiba drive inside...

Please keep in mind the ambiguously selective general understandings we've all agreed upon...

I had this problem on a Powermac. Basically, after waking up from sleep, it UI would freeze. Turned out, the HD was not spinning up upon awaking. No HD = Frozen UI. Replaced the drive and all was well.
The age of the drive means nothing. Some do fail.
