More info's available here about the update. You only need to run it if you've bought a battery since september 2005, or have the double-layer superdrive.

I've run it, and just finished the calibration. Here's my coconutBattery results (Max Capacity):
Before running Updater app : 4307 mAh
After unplugging charger to drain battery for calibration: 4379 mAh
Unplugging charger after calibrating has been completed: 4325 mAh
I have a battery loadcycle count of 29, and my PB is three months old. The Original Batter Capacity is still listed as 4400, it has not gone up to 4600 or anything, unfortunately.
In my case at least the updater didn't seem to make that much difference.

Why this KB article info wasn't supplied along with the updater, who knows?
Anyway, it tells you who needs to use the updater (essentially, anyone who has bought a 15" PB battery since September 2005, so it is not entirely PB model dependent).

I was getting 1:30 before, 2:30 now. Which still is weird given it's a new PowerBook.

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4358
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 4320
Amperage (mA): -1734

You get 1.30 to 2.30 on 4358 mAh? What sort of processes are you running? 2.30 was a minimum time I would expect on the PB... :O

I have no idea what's sucking up my battery, honestly. I think it's my battery? That reading is inaccurate, though isn't it, over long term? I mean, GPS units give you this outrageous time, but as you get closer to your destination, it becomes more accurate. I think there's a scientific term for this; I've no idea what is... convergence accuracy? Something like that. Art major.

Have you calibrated it? (Charge to full capacity then run it all the way down until it puts itself to sleep, then charge to full capacity again).

I didn't need to use the updater, but I get ~3 hours of a full charge with all the extras (Airport, Bluetooth, etc) and dimmed screen down to 1 bar. That used to be up to 4 hours but my battery is 2 and a bit years old now.

I guess it depends on what processes you are running iomatic - what are you running?
I just unplugged my PB, and am current running Azureus, Mail, Safari, MSN, Address Book, iTunes, and Handbrake. It showed me 1.30 remaining from the get go. I'm sure that Azureus and Handbrake have a lot to do with that, as they're both working at the moment, as opposed to be just being open and sitting idle. That's also with the screen on full.
With the screen on one bar, it gave me 1.40 instead. I thought the difference in brightness would equate to more than 10 minutes. Oh well.
I'll try this again later today when neither Azureus or Handbrake are running and let you know what it comes up with then (but I'll leave all the other .apps open).

Without anything processor intensive running (Mail, Safari, MSN, Address Book, iTunes, Quicktime, Notepad), I get:
One-bar display : 4.30-4.40
Full display : 3.10-3.20
