Saw the rumor posted above about a singular "MacBook" to ship in February. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

iBook and PBs have had a large amount of overlap for a while now. Since Apple's going to the trouble of re-engineering everything from scratch, it seems they'd have a lot of incentive to consolidate the product line, and thereby cut down on development costs, and subsequent support costs.

Just a single "MacBook" line, with say, 13", 15", and 17" inch screen variations. Later potentially with dual-core options (whenever Intel's supposed to release those).

Not sure about that. Some people want a cheap, small Apple notebook. Others want all the power and screen real estate they can get.

There has been overlap in the iBook and PowerBook lines, but there really shouldn't have been. There is plenty of room for separate consumer and professional lines of laptops--every other computer manufacturer does it with theirs as well.

I think combining the two lines will be too simple and defeat the purpose.
