Well this is going be long because there are so many problems with my powerbook. Well to start my laptop has been in the shop at least once a month since Jan. 2005. It all started as small issues like cd's not ejecting. That was fixed by apple replacing the superdrive but the case was bent in the mean time. The case was fixed by apple for free even though they tried to accuse me of it.

Well the next issue I had was firewire was no longer working. That ended up being a logic board. This repair took 8 long weeks and apple basically told me not to bother them about it taking so long because they don't care. Well they delivered it back to school, which by that time school was out and the laptop was lost for a week. Turned out DHL delivered it to another office on campus and it was sitting there the whole time. I told apple not to ship it back to the same address, as school would be out.

After that the laptop again had issues ejecting cd's. So it went back in and another new superdrive was put in. Upon getting the laptop back I noticed that every time the laptop was moved or put down the drive would try to eject even though nothing was in it.
Well the computer went back and had another new superdrive installed and still the same problem. A few days after getting the computer back it died completely. The logic board went out less than 6 months after the previous one. This logic board only took 2 weeks to be installed. Upon getting it back this time the case wasn't snapped together above the superdrive and the case bent preventing cd's from going in or out. That was a quick fix though.

Now the computer is evidently overheating as when it gets around 140-150 the computer locks up completely. Tech support is saying it is most likely another logic board and that the computer should be replaced with all the past issues. I called customer relations about all the issues and they basically said they don't care just keep sending it in for repairs. I'm getting sick of not being able to do anything on the computer as it is always in the shop for repairs. At least I'm making sure DHL turns a profit.

This computer is 1.5 yrs old with applecare on it and everything is the same as when it arrived from apple. Even the user name is the same because I know when I get it back from apple it will be back shortly.

I'm just at a loss of what to do and any thoughts of what to do are appreciated.

I have heard people get their laptops replaced for less than that. Call them up an insist on a new laptop. If they refuse, politely ask to talk to their boss. Also about the CD not wanting to pop out, I fixed that myself on mine. I just put small rubber feet under the drive and it's been fine since.

I think I'm going to go to the apple store before sending it in just to talk to them. At the store I was told if any problems popped up they would replace it. But the person I talked to at customer relations acted like she didn't want to even talk to me. The problem with the drive not ejecting was the metal above the slot was bent down. The drive still cycles all the time and that is the problem that has been consitent all along since about Jan. 05. When the computer does lock up the fans kick off and I would guess that the temp shoots well over 180 F (hot enough to keep me from touching it).

My only advice and the only thing that seems to work: a polite but firm complaint through the Better business bureau clearly stating what has happened in a few bullet points, followed by a clear request and outcome - a new powerbook.

It WILL help and lest get a response from Apple that is more proactive than wht you're getting now.

Good luck!

PS. you can do this online...
