should i do it? in the hope that if my powerbook were to be replaced under repair within the next 2 years i'd get a spiffy new intel 'book?

Apple just signed a contract with Freescale to provide G4s for a few more years.

I doubt you'll get a MacBook Pro as a replacement, but I'd buy AppleCare anyway.

With all the repairs I have had applecare do I would say get it. It has more then paid for itself in my situation. If I didn't have it I would have had to pay for two logic board replacements, two superdrives and a hard drive. The powerbook is being shipped back tomorrow for another logic board that has gone out.

Getting it would be a good idea. Hoping to get a MacBook out of it is not a good reason to do so, however.
