Hello Everyone,
I think my Pismo hard drive is going to kick the bucket, and I'm looking for a good 20 GB/5400 RPM internal HD for a Pismo, and could use some good recommendations. It also has to be a quiet drive. But, I'm also lost. Lowendmac states in their Pismo specs that the hard drives needs to be ATA-5 compliant. Would the Segate Momentus work it has ATA-100?
Anyone know if anyone makes this size drive with an 8 or 16 mb buffer?
Even if, I could still use some good real world recommendations.
Thanks a million in advance.

Why dio you bother with 20 GByte? The price differences are too thin.
Installaton ist quite simple. This ATA-X issue might become relevant when drives larger than 120 GByte are available.
The swap is really simple. Get a FW400-enclosure for the old drive. This makes it really simple to transfer your old data onto the new HD and will leave the old HD with some practical use.
Best regards,
Felix

20 GB is all I need. Thanks for tip on the Hitachi mduell.
Anyone else have any recommendations? I just want to keep my options open. I would appreciate any suggestions from anyone using any other brand of drive.
Thanks again.

What's so bad about having more hard disk? You won't be able to look at a 40GB hard disk (which is easy to find) and think "oh, I'll hunt the internet to scrape a 20GB hard disk for 10$ less". Really, 20GB hard disk are becoming HARD to find.

More disk costs more money.
And no, they're not really hard to find. I found one in seconds at a top internet merchant (Newegg, linked to in my first reply).

Yes, but how much more money? If it's for OS9 then OK, 20GB is more than enough, but I have a Pismo too, I use OSX and my 40GB disk is overflowing. You can't think "Oh I'll just stick another hard disk when this gets too small" in a portable. Even dragging around a bus-powered FW case with another disk inside is a nuisance on the road.
Yes, in America I have no doubt that if you want to buy a 6GB 4200rpm hard disk, certainly some mailorder company will sell it to you. In places where there is no mailorder (Europe), we can only get CURRENT hardware. I'm seeing ATA laptop hardrives disappearing fast around here, they're all going SATA.
