I have an iBook with a bad hard drive. I ran the Disk Utility tool and it told me that the hard drive needed to be repaired. Will my data get erased if I do so? I really need to keep my data.
If you're running OS X you'll need to start up using your install disc and run Disk Utility from there. Repairing your drive will leave your files intact. If Disk Utility doesn't get the job done consider trying Disk Warrior, it fixes alot of things DU can't.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
If you need to erase your harddrive, but need to save your files, connect with another mac in target disk mode and save your important files onto the other mac. then burn the information onto a cd or dvd.
