Please help out a nOOb, this is my first post; i dont know where else to turn... (please read, maybe you can help)

I got my hands on a G3 iBook Blueberry Clamshell that had OS 9 installed, and I found out through a good friend that you can actually run OS X off of it even though it doesnt have a firewire by using a program called xPostFacto. So what do i have to lose, i got the laptop for free, and I decided to go for it and needed to install a new hard drive. I decided to use an old hard drive from a Compaq Presario 1600 notebook (6GB) and replaced the existing 3.2GB hard drive. I got an awesome take-apart guide from PBFixIT! and took on the job myself. I installed the new hard drive successfully and booted OS 9 off the CD to re-install it so i could get xPostFacto on it. It boots wonderfully from the CD, and i "install" OS 9. restart it and nothing happens. i "install" OS 9 again, and still nothing. all i am getting is a folder with a "?" sign. My good friend tells me that it might be the jumpers, so i take apart the computer again and put on a jumper. i boot it several times with the jumper on all 4 settings and still nothing. i'm still getting the folder with the "?" symbol.

Whats the problem?
What do I need to do so it boots from the HD?
HELP, please!!!

Are you sure you formatted the new drive as a Mac one before you installed OSX? It's just that maybe it was happy to install the files on a PC disk, but that wouldn't then work for booting.

yes, it was formatted using the disk utilities features in the OS 9 startup disk.

OS X up to a certain point will install directly onto the ibook although I dont remember the last version that installed on non FW clamshells. i have 10.4.4 on my 366 FW clamshell, but the firewire allows it with no mods (the 40gb HD in it came from my ibook g4 so tiger was preinstalled). I have 10.3.9 install discs that i used for my clamshell, but I'm pretty sure that FW was a requirement for 10.3

it is a requirement, you're right. but i can use xPostfacto to override it, which is why i need OS 9 on there first; so i can install xPostfacto.
