I've travelled a bit in the U.S., but I'll be on a short vacation soon in Baja, and I am debating/paring/deciding what items to bring. It's for a wedding, but I definitely like to travel as light as possible. Here's my list:
Equipment (contemplating)
:- 15" 1.67MHz PowerBook G4 (in ACME made case)
- LaCie external HDD
- Sony DV camera--with 3MP photo capacity, but come on! So in addition:
- Sony digital camera
- Treo 650, if Cingular gets their heads out of their #!@es and unlocks it
- PSP for kids' videos
- Nintendo DSs for the kids (yes, we bring books, etc.
)
- 60GB iPod photo with photo adapter
Accessories:- PowerBook power adapter
- iGo adapter, which charges two devices at a time, for all peripherals listed above in a RoadWired CableStable case*
- FireWire cable, MemoryStick PC Card adapter (though I'd prefer CardBus)
Reviewing this list, I think I can safely leave out the PSP, external HDD, and iPod. Are there any "must-haves"? I think I'll leave out the video cables and such; I already have a PowerBook for viewing-- I don't think I need to connect to a TV. Also, I'll grab Safeware as well, and blank DVD-Rs for backup. Is there a good insert (Domke, or otherwise) for cameras to stuff in a shoulder bag/backpack for camera equipment, rather than hauling extra bags?
I wish I could afford a backup iBook to carry instead; that would be better for my back, and managing kids, luggage, etc.— hey maybe I can rent one? But my trusty PB will have to do.
*Though I have the notebook power adapter that can also accept one accessory charger for multiple peripherals, I'm adding one bit of redundancy, in case one or the other charger fails.
