Hi all,

I'm trying to squeeze out some speed through efficiency. I've read the great tips on themacintoshguy.com site, but they all appear to be pre-OS X.

Does anyone have a good place to find info on slimming down functions and operations for 10.4? I've already stripped out unecessary languages, etc.

Thanks,

JM

I'm running Panther on a 333 G3 Powerbook and it's certainly usable. http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...20221092653868 is a great site with information on optimizing OS X for G3 processors.

Thanks JC, I'll take a look.

I'm happy with Tiger on the machine so far (OS9 drove me nuts), although I don't do any heavy lifting.
It was slow to start at first, but I replaced a 128mb chipboard with 512mb and things run a bit smoother & faster, esp on start/shut-down.

I'm just trying to eke out efficiancy given the non-upgradeable processor.

This tells you how to disable Dashboard to free up some memory and cpu usage.

Also, repairing permissions in Disk Utility can sometimes speed you up a little.

Holy cats, they're hogs. Thank you Josh.

I do rely on some widgets, but will review their usage to determine nixing a few.
