The other night my bro wanted me to rip a few audiobooks and put them on his iPod. No problem. We got to disc 4 of 4 and the computer (1GHz 15" AlBook) wouldn't read it. Gave it a try about 15 times (because in the past I have had the same problem but it eventually takes it after the 4th or 5th time). No luck. So, today I took it to my office and ripped it fine on my Dell workstation. I don't think this is a Mac problem, because a couple of weeks ago my housemate was having the same problem with her Dell laptop, and I ripped the CD for her (although it took about 4 tries for my computer to read it).
When my computer wouldn't read the CD the other night, I looked in this forum (found nothing) then looked on Apple's Support forum, where I found the suggestion to delete what may be a corrupted "CD Info.cidb" file in the user Preferences folder. I tried this suggestion but it didn't work in my situation.
Anyone ever experience this same sort of thing? Anyone know what is up with this?

It could be that the drive itself is dying.

You don't mention if this disk is the only one you've had a problem with. If it is, it could just be the disk. If other disks don't work either, then yes, it could be your drive.

Thanks for replying. No, it was just this disc, really. But I won't rule out the drive dying possibility. It's been about 2 years that I have had this computer.

You might also check and see if anyone else is having the same problem with that CD. It could be DRM. I was trying to rip my best friends Metallica CD and no go. Disk 1 riped and played fine. Disc 2 was dead as a door nail. Ran a google on it and it turned out the disc was copy protected. I believe it was his Garage Inc cd.
From what I have heard, the companys will protect only part of the album or book since its cheaper, And if you cant hear the end of the book, its just about useless.
Google it and see what turns up. ALso check some other books on CD by the same company, see if any other books have the same problem.
