...I've installed OS X and now the battery has gone hinky.

It doesn't charge. The only way I get an amber plug and a charge is to pull the battery and pop it back in, which then goes to amber and charges - for about 15 minutes or so, then back to green .

It sounds rediculous, but I've gone fron 0% to over 85% by doing this - at about 2-3% each time!

Coconut Battery tells me I have 81% capacity of a 4mah unit. This, plus the gimp-charge achievement leads me to believe it is the machine, or systems, and not an old un-rechargeable cell.

I have also reset the power manager, with no change.

Does anybody have a bright idea/experience? (besides buying a new battery, or machine... )

Signed,

Hopeful

Just throwing in a generic response here but,

tried calibrating your battery?
Macbook Pro 15" Rev: Feb08
iPhone & iPod Touch

20" iMac G5, Mac Mini G4 and an iBook G4, all retired.

Yes, I tried that too. That's how it got down to 0%...

(is it supposed to drop all the way to 0% for calibrating?)

I can't shake the conclusion that it's not the battery.

Thanks,

JM

It sounds like the charge circuit in the battery it self has gone goofy.

i had a battery like that. It was the one that came with the book (used). I ended up just buying a new one and since then nothing has happened like it.

Maybe see if someone can swap batteries with you just to see if you book will charge it for longer the 15 minutes.

That sounds reasonable.

Unfortunately the closest calmshell to me has, yes, a dead battery. I'll have to snoop around. Perhaps some OTC help at a friendly repair shop...

Thanks.

If it simply won't go amber without being tinkered with, it's almost certainly the battery. Batteries do die. IMO, you're better off going with that assumption and ordering a replacement.

I'm afraid you're right, Biggie.

I just hoped I was onto something with the Coconut diagnosis...

Gracias,

All,

Sorry if the title is misleading. Haven't figured out if I can change it, but I wouldn't be insulted if an admin wanted to banish the thread...
