I have a Powerbook G4 (model 5,4) 1,5ghz and it is getting really warm.
In fact I feel it is overheating.
According to this tool I checked (Temperox and others) the CPU and power supply gets up to 63 celcius (146 farhrenheit).
I experienced at least 3 crashes (not even kernel panics: my powerbook just 'frooze') that I think are the result of overheating.
Now, the only condition that triggers the overheating, is whenever a program uses 100% cpu. This already happens when I use Safari (especially with Flash websites).
However: I think that a laptop should be able to run at 100% without crashing!!!
Anyone have experienced any similar problem?
Ps; my Powerbook is positioned on a stand that leaves the bottom completely in mid-air so it should cool better. The fans kick in, but somehow they do not seem to help at all at cooling things down...

I would truly love to see a Powerbook frooze. I think that would be neat.
In any case, Safari should not be pegging the CPU, even at flash sites. First try creating a test user account to see if you have the problem there. If you don't have the problem, something is fishy with a preferences file or something in your home folder. If you still have the problem, you can try reinstalling the Macromedia plug-in and/or just run a clean install of the OS. If you still have the problem even after that, it's possible, though highly unlikely that the heat sink assembly has moved, though that still would not explain your processor getting pegged. Try what I've suggested first.

About the CPU hogging and Flash: I can reproduce this problem on *any* other Mac at my work so far, even G5's will go haywire.
So I think it is a common problem with flash sites: it also happens when I use Firefox btw....
And off course the overheating occurs whenever any appllication is taking a lot of CPU power for any given time... So I do not think its application related. It's just that my G4 can't stand working hard.
Ps: does anyone know if a powerbook has 1 or 2 fans? I think only 1 is working .....
Also: how warm should a Powerbook 1.5ghz processor get anyway??? Someone suggested that 60 is just normal anyway and I should not worry...

The 12" has one fan. The 15" and 17" have two fans. 60C is high, but not out of the realm of operation.
