I have 12" 1.5 GHz powerbook which is very slow and often has problems waking up after being asleep and occasionally shuts down spontaneously.
It is only 3 months old, and the hard drive is quite empty.
Last week it would not start up and I reformatted the hard drive to started from scratch. This week it stopped working again and I had to reset the power manager to get it to to start up.
Is there a way of determining whether a hardware problem is causing this?
Have you run Disk Utility to try to repair the drive? Have you tried resetting PRAM and PMU? Have you added any extra memory or tried taking out memory that was factory installed? There's lots of troubleshooting options to try mentioned extensively in the forum.
I did some of those things last week: disk utility, PRAM, PMU, there was no problem reported with disk utility.
But today I opened disk utility, and there was a "fatal hardware error" - so computer is going back to apple.
