I just bought my first Mac, (always been a windows guy).. a Pismo Powerbook G3 as a second computer for my home.
It didnt come with a battery, but my problem is I cannot get the left battery compartment open. Is there a trick to this? It seems like its in there pretty solid. I dont want to break the door off.
Just pushing it in like opening the dvd drive doesnt work.
Also, every time I boot up it tells me my date is set to before 2001....I change it, but it comes up again the next time. Does this mean my PRAM battery needs to be replaced?

This is a 400mhz Pismo, 10gb hard drive, 320mb ram. I got it off Craigslist for less than $200. Its a pretty nice unit, no dead pixels, dvd-rom works, etc. The previous owner also has installed OS-X, 10.3.9 I think. Of course, I didnt get any discs or manuals.
But I can work on that.

Thanks!

There's an eject lever for each compartment toward the front of the Pismo. And yes, it looks like you need a new PRAM battery.

The button you see on the battery is just made to light up the LEDs and check how much charge is left. To eject the battery, it's a mechanical lever on the front lower corner of the computer. Pull it towards you with your index finger (gently...).

Found it! Guess I should have looked a little closer.

Thanks!
