Hey folks,
I noticed my battery kinda sticks out. The spring-loaded contacts push it out, even if it is locked. I know it's an iBook, but is everyone else just living with it?
Also, I have a dead pixel on the bottom left corner of my screen. How is Apple and dead pixels. I can live with it, but was just curious.

My battery sticks out and yes I just live with it.
I think Apple will take it back if it has 6 or 7 dead pixels or 4 if they are in the center. Those numbers might not be exact, but they should be close.

Also, I have to somewhat..slam the lid down for the latch to come out and grab. I'm guessing that's normal too, huh?

My port plate isn't flush, either... All of these little flaws makes me want to swap it for another one.

I went ahead and called tech support. They said I could either have it sent in or go to a local Apple Store. I have two Apple Stores near me, so I went that route. Although the battery gap and port plate not being flush was strictly cosmetic, the sticking latch really bothered me. They labeled the laptop DOA and gave me a new one. I even bought .Mac..which I'll probably return since I found out about MySync.
I brought the second laptop to the Genius Bar to check for flaws. The laptop still suffered from the battery and port plate flaws, but the LCD was perfect and the latch worked. I closed the lid and noticed a 3-4" scratch on the lid. Even though this is cosmetic, I asked for another one. Hey, I rather scratch the lid myself if I'm paying for the laptop!
Third is a charm. No factory scratches (QC?) and the LCD was flawless. I brought it home and reinstalled software... I'm content.

I wouldn't call having the battery stick out a little a problem, but most people live with it. It DOES show that the battery pins are in GOOD contact with the battery though.
One dead pixel is nothing to worry about-and it may not actually be dead. They often decide to turn back on after some time. No sweat.
Now, a flakey latch? THAT is a real mechanical problem. I'm glad you got what you wanted.
(The scratch on the first new iBook was probably from having it on a shelf and unpacked to show it to somebody. You apparently got one fresh out of a sealed box to replace it.)
