My g3 ibook (dual usb) started making a constant clicking sound from the speakers . Adjusting the volume has no effect and I tried plugging and unplugging all mouse , ipod , usb hub . Plugging in earphones cuts the speakers but you can hear the clicking sound faintly in the ear phones . It stops momentarily when I restart but starts again even before the apple boot screen appears and it stops when I put it to sleep. The sound is definately coming from the speakers . Any ideas ?

I think it's to do with the hard drive. Mine has a faint whining sound that changes when the HD is doing things and a static sound when using the trackpad. More noticeable when using headphones.

In messing around with it the sound stops when randomly hitting keys but starts again when another key is hit or the adapter is plugged or unplugged . I plugged in a pair of sony walkman head phones and the speakers cut out . All noises from the case are normal and the audio on the headphones sounds good no clicking noise . I'm thinking it might be causing the clicking sound over the speakers , just a wild guess though
