What software do you run?
I sold my TiBook last year for more than it cost to buy a new iBook 1.33. I sold it because my AppleCare warranty was running out, and because not having USB 2.0 drove me up the wall. 802.11g support on the iBook is also very nice.
BTW, the TiBook cannot run apps that require Core Image GPU hardware acceleration. The iBook can. The main problem with the iBook is the screen is not as nice.

well, I hate tibooks wireless reception, is ibooks better?
plus i'd love to have both usb 2.0 and bluetooth
whats bottering me is the sound, construction and overall quality of the ibook.
What do you think, are you happier with the ibook?
I can get a powerbook 12 " 1.33 with superdrive for 100 U$s
should i stick with mine, go for the ibook or take the powerbook?
thx a lot,
matias

The iBook is marginally better for wireless reception. The 802.11g speeds are definitely nice with the iBook though. It makes a huge difference when transferring files over the wireless network.
The construction of the TiBook was OK, as is the iBook's. Neither are rock solid though IMO.
Integrated Bluetooth rocks, but I generally use Bluetooth on my iMac not my laptop.
USB 2.0 is a big deal for me, since I have USB 2 flash readers and flash drives. It's also important for people who bought a new iPod, because the new ones can't sync over Firewire.
Do not get the PowerBook 12". The current model is hopelessly crippled. The GeForce Go 5200 is useless in Apple's eyes, so much so that one of Apple's own pro apps laughs at it and refuses to install on the PowerBook 12" (yet it installs and runs fine on the iBook).
Or perhaps you could just wait for a 13" MacBook (Pro), which is what I want. I will probably sell my iBook 1.33 next year, for the second iteration of an Intel 13", when more universal binaries are available.

I worked on my girlfriend's iBook for a bit last year and I have to say for anything image related, the resolution is very restrictive. Didn't really need the bluetooth and I suppose the usb2 is a nice bonus.
I really must say the biggest difference was the airport reception. I must disagree with Eug that it is marginal as that margin meant being able to work online as oppsosed to having a weak or nonexistant signal. Maybe they both don't perfomr as well as some windows laptops I've seen but that's not the point is it?
It's an interesting trade for portability (I really love the 12" ibook as a durable little portable notebook), you might notice a slight perfomance boost at best in some things but otherwise it'll take some time to get used to the limited screen res. If you're working with large images, or apps with lots of pallettes I would think twice.

I will be using it for writing most of the time, and watching some dvds,
Im getting about 1200 u$s for the tibook
I can either go for an
ibook 1269 u$s (combodrive)
or a
powerbook 12" (superdrive) for about 1350 u$s
still think ibook is the best way to go?
which one is more rugged?
thx a lot,
matias

I'd do it. Lighter, smaller, compact, and more durable (to me).

I have the same TiBook and am looking to upgrade. Where did you sell yours? I would seriously consider selling mine and getting a new book of somesort.
Incidentally, if I were you dump it and go for the iBook.

Don't get the powerbook - as Eug said it's the model most starved and in need of an update. The iBook is still a decent value. If you absolutely need to move now, and can't wait a few months for the other macintel notebooks (which look to be a signifigant improvement over both the tibook and the iBook) , go for the iBook. Otherwise wait and upgrade to the small/inexpensive macbook model that is surely to come.

at this point in Apple's development cycle, you'd be better off sticking with the Ti-1 ghz for a while and then going to the macbook pro, presumably when they come out with a 12" model or the long-rumored ibook single-core intel model. If you can stand keeping the Ti for another 6-8 months, you'll have a better range of choices.
If you're really upset with the wireless range, get a wireless pmcia card. I got a Buffalo card at Target.com for $25 which was natively supported in 10.3 and 10.4. If you go to the 12", you'll really, seriously, very much miss the Ti LCD.

iBook. Latest news on macnn says that Adobe apps won't be updated for about a year, possibly longer. By then, a .1 or .3 release will have come out another six months out, and a new revision of MacBook will have made its way. I would get the more powerful iBook running PowerPC native applications, and be happy with that for awhile.

oh the extra ram makes the ibook a no brainer. Really.
edit: unless the superdrive is a must that is.

I agree with the RAM point. 512 is just not enough for Tiger. I got 768 on my 1.2 12" iBook and I sitll pageout a lot.

Can you get one of the refurbs from the AppleStore online in Argentina? SuperDrive, 1.5GHz; you'll have to add 512MB RAM... but it would net the same.
?

i sold my tibook 800 back in '04 just so i could get a 12" powerbook. i do print graphics, design and layout, no video or 3D, don't waste time on games, so it performs as well as i need it to. i love the portability of the 12" form factor. it's hooked up to a 22" monitor so i'm not deprived of screen pixels.

Update:
I got the ibook
Pros:
faster
smaller
battery life
usb 2.0
much better wireless reception
bluetooth
and more
Cons:
Keyboard and screen
Well, I'm happy about the trade, still there are 2 things i'd like to solve
1) the battery has a little gap, i mean it sticks out a little bit
2) one of the keys (the right command key) has to be pressed a bit hard to work
any of you know if applecare would take care of these issues?
Other than that, its a really nice computer
Thx everyone!
