A good superdrive for a Pismo?

My original DVD-ROM drive has one leg out the door, as it will only read dvds on a good day, and it won't read my software install discs anymore. I'd like to upgrade to a Superdrive, but the thing is, I'm an obsessive-compulsive freak that needs everything to match! So I need a Superdrive that will accomodate my original faceplate (bezel) so that it matches the lines of my machine. After five years it is still in awesome shape without even a single keyboard mark on the screen or glazing on the palmrests.

I have a Pismo, and my original DVD drive is part#M7391. My bezel has the eject button 1/3 the way from the right side, and the emergency release button is directly horizontal and to the right of the eject button.

Again, aesthetics is what I'm after, so slot-loaders are out of the question as they won't accomodate the curved bezel the original drive has. Does anyone know of a tray-loading superdrive that has the buttons in the original places as the original M7391 drive?

Pick up a UJ-820 drive. You'll pay over $100 for it, though. It's a 4x single layer superdrive and it will fit the bezel. Search XLR8YourMac.com's database under "Exp. Bay" to read comments about other drives.

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).

I recently purchased a 'bare' slot-loading SuperDrive for my Pismo from Wegener Media dot-com. It blends in with the Pismo *perfectly* and installs in the existing DVD-ROM expansion bay module.

Give 'em a try--they're good folks!

Thanks Eriamjh, it looked good but unfortunately I found out more info on my dying drive... it's an LG model and the UJ-820's buttons are located differently than on my faceplate, perhaps it'll fit the Panasonic drives?

sahnapiranha, that slot-loading drive you picked up? By any chance, could you post pictures of the drive? I never knew they made slot loaders that were contoured to the shape of the Pismo! Sounds very exciting, I'm really interested!

Or, if anyone out there knows of a superdrive that'll fit with an LG faceplate?

I also got a slot-loader from Wegener. The faceplate was pretty crude and left a lot to be desired. It more or less fits, though.
