This SO-DIMM costs less (with a discount), has the same specs (that I can tell), HERE
While this "Apple" one looks the same HERE.
Thoughts?

Looks exactly the same to me, except for some odd reason there's no discounted sales price for the "Apple" RAM. There's no such thing as vendor proprietary RAM, anyway; one cannot help but suspect Crucial wants to make a little extra off Mac users.

Their whole thing is the guarantee to work; so they'll foot the bill for return postage and replacement (and one of the CSRs said it was the same), as far as i can tell.
OK, so what do you all think?
1.5GB to 2GB. Worth it? CS2, DW/Flash, etc.; media apps. Any performance numbers, cost ratios? It's in my budget now, so I figure no loss, but just a little bit curious for more info.
Thx.

I just bought samsung ram from OWC for that price... let me know if the "dell" crucial ram works fine and I might be bumping up from 1.25 to 2.

They said it's exactly the same. I have the Crucial "Apple" one in now; when I install it, I'll check part nos., etc. and let you all know. If I remember

There are a number of specifications (timings, density, etc) that don't appear in the brief specs on the page. Also there are different demand curves for different market segments. The generic module is actually more expensive than the module for the Dell.
Some Macs in the past have been known to be "picky" about RAM. If anyone tells you that "RAM is all the same" they're full of it. It could be that the chipset used in that Dell is more lenient when it comes to memory.

Once again the myth is HUGE on "brand name" RAM. 98% of the world's RAM is produced in no more than 10 factories. Crucial buys RAM from the same factories. It's the same RAM. There was a study on Tom's hardware I believe that used a RAM tested, and they ACTUALLY FOUND that the generic ram they tested brand name against out of 200 sticks actually had LESS defects!
I've never found a RAM company that doesn't have a guarantee, if the RAM is bad they will take it back.
Seriously, don't get duped into wasting your money, use www.pricewatch.com to look for ram. It's all about using a retailer that will be around if your RAM goes bad.

Mark, the rep. in their "live chat" literally said that it was the same unit, and that their stock numbers were external only.
Also, they're out of stock anyway.

It gets even more icestuous than that. Crucial is the retail arm of Micron Technologies [one of the worlds top memory manufacturers]. Apple could be ordering their memory from Micron.
This whole thread reminds me of the markup that Cisco charges for memory. I have seen memory that retails for $80 resold for $700. Cisco but the memory [Kingston if I recall correctly] in the manufacturers own box , into a larger box branded with a Cisco logo, for that service they charge $620.
Since the keynote, the price of the MacBook RAM has gone up about $50-60, Crucial is gouging.
