Powerbook 12" rev. D running OS X 10.4.4. and connected to an external LCD monitor via DVI.

If the powerbook is on power adapter, it boots normally.
If the powerbook is on battery and both the laptop and the external screens are in use, it boots normally.
If the powerbook is on battery and its lid is closed, i.e. the laptop screen is not in use and the external screen is in use, then the laptop goes to sleep mode just before the login screen. Pressing the power button wakes the machine up and everything seems fine after that.

Checked console.log, no relevant entries.

The following appear in system.log, no other entries that may be relevant:
<date> <time> <machine_name> kernel[0]: System Sleep
<date> <time> <machine_name> kernel[0]: System Wake

The energy saver settings are set never to put the computer to sleep if inactive (both on power and battery).

Is this a normal behavior? Although my powerbook is connected to the power adapter when connected to the external screen most of the time, I can think of a case (i.e. presentation) when it may run on battery when using an external screen (projector) only.

Any ideas how to fix this?
