I own a G3 ibook with OS 10.2.8, what I want to do is up grade its' OS software with the software that came with my new G4 ibook OS 10.3.9.

Is is possible?

It is better to just go to some kind of an OS update web site and download updates?

If it is better to do OS updates, where do I go to do that?

Of course, it's possible.

10.3 runs noticeably faster than 10.2

I guess you'll have to find someone w/ 10.3 or look on eBay or ??

What I'm asking is if I can use the OS 10.3.9 discs that came with my G4 to upgrade my older G3 with OS 10.2.8
Seems like I should be able to, but I'm not sure if it's just a matter of popping in the discs.

The only way to know for sure is to try it. If it won't work with the G3 the installer will let you know soon enough...

!0.3 and 10.4 both run fine on my G3 iBook, making it very "snappy" and stable. 10.3 is such a huge improvement over 10.2 that I think an upgrade is a requirement, not an option.

i used some restore discs from a g4 emac to upgrade my clamshell...then i swapped in a drive with 10.4.3 on it so my clamshell has tiger

The 10.3.3 DVD that came with my iBook G4 works fine in any G3 Mac, however the 10.4.2 DVD that came with a friend's newer iBook G4 won't work on any computer except her iBook.
