What do you mean by "doing work"? I don't do any audio or video work, so I can't speak to that, but if I'm doing typical work in Office, the only noise I hear from the PowerBook described in my sig is the sound of its hard drive. The fan only comes on if I'm playing a graphics-intensive game.
The Core Duo is supposedly designed for good power management, so I doubt it could be any worse than what I've experienced.

my g4 powerbook's fan comes on after about 15 minutes of use, and is quite warm to the touch when its processor is being taxed..i.e. running photoshop filters/imovie etc.
I'm wondering if the Intel chipped macbook pro's chips are cool enough to avoid the fan issue?

i have had a ALpb15" and now my PB17" and both never had any noise at all ever. and i have never seen one that is noisy.
you can hear a slight soft hissing like a gas stove but that is all... and i consider that to be extremely quite. I am a very fussy user and quiet operation was one of the reasons i bought my second PB.
i have also seen other intel notebooks and their fan/hd are as noisy as they come. buzzing and high pitched whirring... ughhh. also other notebooks got very hot under the palms.
i think that all laptops will have a heat problem and noise issues... but i would bet that the PB will be the most tolerable.
goodluck

I think if you had read any of the other threads you would know that nobody has received one of these things yet.

yeah its true that we wont know until they arrive however it may be beneficial to do a comparison with the PB since that is all we have at the moment. it is quite possible that noise levels were a consideration when designing the PB and that would still be a factor considered in the macbook.
but yeah.. we got to wait and see for sure.

Some people can answer whether these are noisy, but I haven't heard any comments. They were on display at MacWorld. While I'm sure it was really loud there, I bet someone put their ear up to it to hear what it was doing.

The only noise I have ever had coming from my Powerbooks were from the hard drive. I had to return three Powerbooks before my current one. Each one had a noisy drive. The last one came with a completely silent Seagate drive installed. My concern on the my new Macbook will be getting a noisy hard drive. If it is I will be pissed, because, when they are silent, they are great. When the hard drive is noisy, they seem cheap.

My Ti is quite loud when the fans are on, especially since one makes a bit of a rattling noise. Perhaps they've made this better in the series following Ti and the MBP benefits as a result.
