im patiently waiting for my macbook and want to make sure i dont inadvertantly cause permanent damage to the battery when i use it for the first time.

i know apple reccomends to calibrate laptop batteries during their first use, does anyone have any idea how the calibration will work on the macbook pro?

will it be plug the charger in til it's fully charged, let it sit for 2 hours, then unplug and drain(use the computer) until it sleeps?

or fully charge, then unplug and drain?

i want to get the most out of the battery i have absolutely no idea about

I don't really understand the difference between the two options that you described, except for the part about waiting for two hours. AFAIK there is no benefit in waiting for any length of time after you fully charge the 'book before you start to drain it. I assume the calibration process will be exactly the same as it is on the PowerBook.

It doesn't matter if you calibrate the battery first or later. You can do it at anytime.

If you don't do it first, the computer may report that the battery has less charge or time remaining than after you calibrate it.

With regards to the waiting two hours after a full charge before starting a discharge, this is to allow the battery to cool. These batteries have temperture sensors in them. They get hot when they are fully charged. That's one way the computer knows to stop charging them. Waiting a couple hours to start a discharge is good for the battery.
