Somehow, my CD slot dented today. The top and bottom of the slot were about 2/3rds of the way closed in on each other. I was able to get the dent out by gently using a thick VW key. Unfortunately, this dug into the slot "lips" and created some nasty burrs that have the potential to damage any media I insert.

It seems as though there is no immediate problem. They will only scratch media if i put it in at a sharper angle than normal. Still, I'm uncomfortable with the burrs being there. Short of replacing the lower case pan, can anyone think of any solutions?

I've thought about using some very fine grit sandpaper, between 1000 and 1500 grit, to dull them a little bit. Of course, this raises concerns about dust entering the drive.

I read a post in the archives about a similar incident. The guy used a Swiss Army knife to realign the case. Apparently he was very careful though, because he didn't mention damaging the case in the process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
