if it's ok to leave my laptop in the car when it's around -10c
b/c i'm going snowboarding...but i can't check in at the hotel til 4pm...

As long as it is in some kind of protective sleeve or case and not switched on or sleeping, it should not be an issue. I would wait until you get back to your hotel room before you boot it up and load your photos for the day's riding

It should be fine as long as you dont open it up or try and use it in these conditions, wait until your warm in your hotel room.

I'd agree with Andy8's opinion too - it sounds the likely answer, though I've no direct experience to back this up.
