internal speakers broken

i have a powerbook g4 15"
my internal speakers dont play sound anymore and there is a red light coming out of the headphone jack
if i connect external speakers, those work
what should i do

The red light is the optical output. I'm not sure if it should normally be visible unless you have external speakers connected. Someone else can answer that. If it's not supposed to be that way, it could be possible that your machine thinks external speakers or headphones are attached when there aren't any, causing the internal speakers to get turned off.
